1-year-old girl found dead after being left in mother’s hot
vehicle for nearly 10 hours, deputies say
HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A one-year-old girl was pronounced
dead after she was accidentally left in a vehicle Thursday, the
Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded
to reports of a child left in a vehicle in the Crescent Park
Village subdivision, located in the 8000 block of Barnes Ridge
Lane, around 6 p.m.
Investigators said the mother was
taking her three children, ages 5, 3 and 1, to daycare this
morning, but when she arrived, she only dropped off the
3-year-old and the 5-year-old. Deputies believe the 1-year-old
was accidentally left in the vehicle.
Deputies said the
mother returned home and and at some point during the day she
went to exercise. It was only when she went to pick up her other
children from daycare that she realized she hadn’t dropped off
her 1-year-old daughter.
Deputies said a worker from the
daycare went home with the mother to help look for the
1-year-old and found her in a vehicle on the back floorboard.
Deputies said the child had been left in the vehicle from
about 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The child was pronounced dead on the
scene.
The mother has been detained for questioning,
according to deputies.
The case will be presented to the
District Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges would be
filed, according to deputies.
