Woman, baby daughter found dead in car at Oak Ridge parking lot
Orange County deputies found a
20-year-old woman and her infant daughter dead inside a car
Thursday in an Oak Ridge parking lot, Sheriff John Mina said
Friday.
The bodies
of Massania Malcolm and her 1-year-old daughter Jordania sat
inside the vehicle “for probably a couple of days,” after a
shooting on Tuesday that also involved Malcolm’s boyfriend and a
friend that was staying with them, Mina said at a news
conference.
Malcolm
was found shot to death inside the vehicle and Mina said it
appears Jordania died next to her mother from the extreme heat.
“This is a
horribly tragic case that has shattered two families,” Mina
said. “This suspect allegedly left that baby to die in that
car.”
Detectives are searching for
21-yr-old Doujon Griffiths, who was staying with the family and
is the suspected shooter, Mina said.
Mina
didn’t identify Malcolm’s boyfriend, who is in his 20s and is
Jordania’s father, but said he was found at his apartment with
five gunshot wounds, about a mile from the parking lot on Lake
Ellenor Drive.
The man
has been in and out of consciousness at a hospital since then,
but told police that he couldn’t find Malcolm and his daughter
after the shooting.
According
to Mina, the man told investigators he was driving with Malcolm
and the baby when Griffiths, who sat in the backseat, opened
fire after an argument.
The victim
said he thought Malcolm was also shot and Griffiths drove off
with her and Jordania in the car, according to Mina.
Griffiths
faces an attempted murder charge for allegedly shooting
Malcolm’s boyfriend and is a suspect in the death investigation
of Malcolm and Jordania, according to Mina.
