New Plymouth baby left in vehicle pronounced dead at Boise hospital.

An investigation is underway into the death of a baby girl who was left in a hot vehicle on Saturday. The Payette County Sheriff’s Office said a family in New Plymouth called 911 at about 5 p.m. to request medical assistance for a girl younger than 1. The infant had been left in a vehicle and was found not breathing, a sheriff’s office press release stated. Both the sheriff’s office and the Fruitland Police Department responded to the call.

The girl was transported to a hospital in Boise where she was pronounced dead. The official cause of death was still unknown as of Sunday, according to the press release. Payette County Sheriff Andrew Creech told the Idaho Statesman that law enforcement had not yet determined how long the girl was left in the car.

The Payette County Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police are continuing to investigate what happened. Temperatures in Southwest Idaho on Saturday reached 99 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. When temperatures are in the mid-90s, the inside of a vehicle can reach close to 140 degrees within about an hour.
